Take a look at http://www.3DCADForums.com and see where their placing ads. Be sure to link into the forum listings and threads. I use to own this form but sold it last April to Design World http://www.designworldonline.com. I still admin it though.
They did a good job of placing ads for the best impact. -Don

In the header, next to the Portals button.
Between the News Archive and Today's Birthdays modules. I didn't look in the forums but inline ads after the first and fifth posts in threads are good placements.
