Hello,

I do think for now a very big result, but still some visitors gathered to site an IM is a choice.

When launching a website you can quickly attract attention of at least your friends by:
- PM-ing them (somehow not the best idea, may be seen as a "spam") with a short descriptive text and link to website
- just add URL and a very short text to YM status

Cool Excellent Idea!

This is an excellent idea that I never really thought of! Because you are only sending IMs to approved "friends", it will not be considered spam (well at least not to your face )

That is actually an incentive to build up one's IM contact list up. Are there any technical draw-backs to using Yahoo or other IM service for this purpose?

PMing isn't too affective unless they have instant email notification enabled.

Putting your URL(s) in your forum and email signatures is a good idea though.

As far as adding your URL to an instant message, I see that as spam and just ignore it.

most people will just ignore an IM saying "hey come and look at my site! www.example.com"

*wonders what is actually at www.example.com...*

Actually i am not proposing to spam anyone. Just to spread through my IM list.

Also message sent should be relevant to topic, not just saying: "watch the site x". Rather for a video site: come and watch most funnies video ...........
