Avatars.
I remember when this first started. Everyone was getting avatars with their site URL and name made and buying avatar spots from people.
I don't think this is as effective as signature links and other regular links. When avatars are clicked, you get taken to the user's profile, not another website. Most people won't take the time to type in a URL in the address bar. So, what's the point of buying avatar spots? Just in case...? Have you ever bought someone's avatar spot? I got a few but only because they were free. I wouldn't purchase that stuff.

People don't really buy signatures for SEO purposes. I know there are people that do that but it's usually for exposure.
