Alot of it is the almost the same, I find it less customisable though, less mods etc. You can definately tell vBulletin and myBB apart, but out of the free forums on offer its the closest thing to vb in my eyes. Try it on a test forum and see what you think.

Jerlene, it doesn't convert phpbb3 to mybb. It only for the version 2 and IPB, vbulletin and smf

I think phpbb2 is the best free forum but there are some nice and easy other free forum software

I looked into minibb too that is a very nice simplistic forum. I also ran accross bbpress it is wordpress integrated with a forum. I would have used that software but nice themes are scarce for that forum.
